INTEGRATED
HEALTHCARE ASSOCIATION NAMES ALLEN FEEZOR TO BOARD
WALNUT CREEK, CA – The Integrated Healthcare Association (IHA), a
statewide leadership group active in health care policy and managed care issues,
announces the appointment of Allen D.
Feezor, Health Benefits Administrator for CalPERS, to its Board of
Directors. Feezor replaces Margaret
Stanley, who served on the IHA Board from 1996 until her departure from CalPERS
last year for the Regence Blue Shield health plan in the State of Washington.
Feezor
was appointed to his post last September and took over on January 1 of this
year. He serves as the top health
advisor for the Board of Administration and CEO of the California Public
Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), which purchases health coverage for more
than 1.1 million public employees, retirees, and their families at more than
1,300 state and local public agencies throughout California.
Feezor oversees CalPERS contracts with 10 HMOs, two self-funded PPOs, and
three “association” plans for members of specialized groups, as well as one
of the fastest growing long-term care plans.
Prior to joining CalPERS. Feezor was vice president for planning,
marketing, network development, and managed care for University Health Systems
of Eastern Carolina. He also served
as chief deputy commissioner for the North Carolina Department of Insurance from
1985-1995, as executive administrator of the 430,000 member North Carolina
Teachers’ State Employees’ and Retirees’ Health Plans, and as senior
Washington (DC) representative for the Blue Cross/Blue Shield Association.
Feezor serves on the board of
the Pacific Business Group on Health and is a past president of the Utilization
Review Accreditation Commission and past chair of a National Association of
Insurance Commisioners’ task force which developed model laws on insurance
reform, purchasing alliances, and health plan accountability.
He is also a past member of two Institute of Medicine studies on the
future of health benefits and improving Medicare.
Feezor earned both his B.A. degree in political science and M.A. in
political science and intergovernmental relations at Duke University.
