IHA NAMES THREE PHYSICIAN LEADERS TO BOARD
Walnut Creek, CA -- The Integrated Healthcare Association (IHA) announces the appointment of three new physician leaders to its board of directors Sharon Levine, MD, associate executive director of The Permanente Medical Group, Oakland; Donald J. Rebhun, MD, MSPH, president and medical director, Greater Valley Medical Group, Mission Hills; and Chuie L. Yuen, MD, vice president and chief medical officer, West Coast Operations, CIGNA HealthCare, Glendale.
Sharon Levine, MD, is a practicing pediatrician who joined The Permanente Medical Group in 1977 and has been an associate executive director since 1991. She has broad responsibilities for human resources, from recruitment to compensation to clinical and management training, as well as for diversity, public relations, health policy, and community and government relations. Dr. Levine is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and is a member of the American College of Physician Executives, California Medical Association, American Medical Womens Association, and American Medical Association. She received her undergraduate degree from Radcliffe College and her MD from Tufts University School of Medicine, where she did her residency at Tufts New England Medical Center before spending a year at the National Institutes of Health doing research on infant nutrition. Statewide, The Permanente Medical Group employs 4,000 physicians and serves 2.9 million members enrolled in Kaiser Permanente, the states largest HMO.
Donald J. Rebhun, MD, MSPH, is president and medical director of Greater Valley Medical Group; president of Greater Valley Physician Association, an IPA; and vice president of physician affairs for the Cedars Sinai Medical Network, overseeing physician and patient education and representing the medical network in areas of legislation and advocacy. Board certified in internal medicine, Dr. Rebhun joined Greater Valley Medical Group in 1984 as a full-time practitioner and director of urgent care. He was named medical director and president in 1989 and still sees patients as well as serving as an assistant clinical professor of medicine at the UCLA School of Medicine. In 1993 he participated on the Health Care Advisory Task Force in Washington, DC. Dr. Rebhun received all of his degrees from UCLA a bachelors in biology, a master of science in public health, and his medical degree. Greater Valley represents several hundred physicians in the medical group and IPA and serves more than 80,000 capitated patients in the San Fernando Valley.
Chuie L. Yuen, MD is vice president and chief medical officer for CIGNA HealthCare, West Coast Operations, responsible for the quality management, health services, care management, and pharmacy departments. Together with the vice president of network management, she leads the regional operations teams that oversee the CIGNA network of IPA providers, hospitals, and facilities. She is a member of CIGNA HealthCares National Sales Account Team and also serves on the California Medical Association Foundations Advisory Board and on the Medical Advisory Committee of the California Association of Health Plans. Prior to joining CIGNA in 1991, Dr. Yuen was in private practice in family medicine for nine years and was chief of family practice for the Hawthorne Community Medical Group. A board-certified family practitioner, she received her medical degree from Stanford University and did her residency at Harbor UCLA Medical Center in
Torrance. CIGNA HealthCares California operations date back to the 1929 founding of its predecessor company, Ross-Loos Medical Group of Los Angeles, one of the nations first HMOs. CIGNA Healthcare of California has approximately one million members statewide.
