Primary care is the foundation of a healthy healthcare system. Yet many providers face increasing pressure — from administrative burden to financial strain — that makes it harder to deliver the care patients need. The California Advanced Primary Care Initiative, led by IHA and the California Quality Collaborative, aims to address these challenges through a value-based payment system. Three California health plans, Aetna, Blue Shield of California, and Health Net, have united to co-implement the payment model.
A recent article in Fierce Healthcare highlights the interest the demonstration project is receiving across the state and country. In the article, IHA’s Dolores Yanagihara discusses how the initiative is reshaping primary care payment, ensuring providers are better supported for taking a population health management approach to care.
