Healthcare Innovation Spotlights the California Advanced Primary Care Initiative: A Q&A with Dolores Yanagihara

In the News

The launch of the California Advanced Primary Care Initiative, led by IHA and the California Quality Collaborative, made headlines in Healthcare Innovation recently. The article highlights the unique collaboration between three California health plans to co-implement the shared value-based payment model, which is designed to address disparities in primary care payment, promote health equity, and improve population health across the state.

Healthcare Innovation spoke with IHA’s Dolores Yanagihara, General Manager of Performance Measurement Programs, about the initiative. In the Q&A, Yanagihara discusses the motivation behind the initiative, the common reporting platform for the demonstration project, early learnings and challenges, and the importance of supporting small primary care practices in care delivery.

“So I feel that there will be a lot of growth in the practices in terms of their ability to really do population health management. What does that look like at the individual practice level? I think we’ll see that. And the use of the common technology and common technical assistance will really help,” she says.
