Session: National and State Efforts to Improve Provider Databases
Wednesday, October 1, 9:45 – 11:00 AM
Improving the ability of enrollees to access accurate information about their network providers continues to be a hot topic. At the federal level, CMS recently announced their intention to create a national provider database to ensure accurate Medicare provider data. They are also testing this approach with one state’s QHPs (Oklahoma; federal exchange) to enhance health information exchange and reduce administrative costs. Fortunately for California, Symphony is a functioning utility for provider data accuracy that is operational now. Symphony manages over 600,000 provider records, including 100,000 for Covered California and its 12 QHPs, powering the consumer-facing “Shop and Compare” provider directory tool for 1.9 million enrollees.
