Public and private payers are developing alternative payment models to encourage providers to integrate care and be accountable for both the quality and cost of patient care. IHA and its members are on the frontlines of identifying effective payment innovations to encourage high-quality, affordable care.
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) recently adopted an alternative payment model framework that categorizes payments to providers according to how providers are incentivized to provide care. IHA’s Value Based Pay for Performance (VBP4P) program is one of the most advanced models in the country, falling into Category 3 as defined by CMS.
Beyond the VBP4P program, IHA has completed meaningful work on demonstration projects aimed at testing the feasibility of new innovations in the complex California health care system.
